Cloth diaper tips!?

Question

I’m working on becoming zero waste, I’m starting with the things I think will be easiest and I’ve also had a huge interest in cloth diapers since my daughter was born. But I don’t know where to start. I’m going to use pocket style diapers but other than that I’m clueless. How many do I need? How often do I change her diaper vs just the insert? How long do they last? If you use cloth diapers drop any and all tips you’ve got! Thank you!

I’m a little limited on this but I do know my SIL always changed the whole diaper not just the insert.  She also had very specific washing instructions and had to strip the diapers with a different washing technic every so often.  They had a sprayer on their toilet to rinse off poop before washing.  She had around 40 diapers and washed loads a couple times a week.  The one thing I would be careful of is where you store dirty diapers waiting for wash.  She put hers in the attached garage and the house always smelled like dirty diapers.

There’s  a nappy company I’ve been looking it and they say you need around 20. You can buy ones that are one size that last right up until potty training.

Curious about this too... I heard that start up cost is a little more but it’s cheaper in the long run. I don’t much but following to see what other moms say.
