Pacifier and breast feeding?

My son just wants to suck all the time. He’s only 1 week old, and the recommendation for starting a pacifier while breastfeeding is 3 weeks. My lactation consultant stated to give him my finger for now, but I can’t sit there with my finger in his mouth forever, the minute I take it out he wakes up and cries. Anyone successfully given a pacifier early while breastfeeding?

I gave my daughter a paci pretty much from day one. She nursed without any real issues for a year! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just be aware that there is a cluster feeding period between 7-10days old, so you don’t confuse hunger signs and suction need.

I also had this instinct in the first week and everyone told me that it would be a total disaster - it would fuck up her latch, she would take a pacifier instead of eating - but she was over eating because she just wanted to suck and she was vomiting constantly. I eventually decided to go with my gut and give her the pacifier and it was exactly what she needed. She’s easy to calm now, she doesnt throw up, she’s still exclusively breast fed and we’ve had no latching issues. She doubled her weight in 12 weeks.

I gave mine a pacifier. He’s fine. He’s 11 days now, and I gave him 1 in the hospital because I couldn’t deal with the nipple torture 😂
