Children's shows and diversity

While I LOVE the show Doc Mcstuffins as a parent some parents have called a boycott of the show. An episode of Doc Mcstuffins Toy Hospital included an interracial lesbian couple with 2 children. The show also brings other social, medical, ethical, issues into light (adoption, working mothers, adopt dont shop, and more). Some of the other shows also bend up some social norms. For example Fancy Nancy's Mom being the more "masculine" one who fixes things in the home, or her cousin who she assumes will be a rough and tumble boy being more "feminine" and wanting to join her fondu party. I am all for these shows changing up social norms and introducing children to more real life characters and people. However, many disagree. What do you think about children's shows straying from "socially normed" characters? Disney has been rocking the single Dad for ages, even Step Parents (yes even evil ones count), why not interracial, Gay, lesbian, transgender, special needs?
