Upgrade to convertible car seat?

When did you upgrade from the infant carrier to the convertible car seat?

We did when she could sit up well unassisted around 6 months. She was getting too heavy for me to carry in the infant seat too

We waited until he was closer to 1 year simply because we didn't have the funds for a new seat. He loves his convertable seat so much more than the infant one which had no padding whatsoever and was uncomfortable on longer trips.

I switched him at around 6 months. He still hasn’t reached the height/weight limit for the infant seat, but I just got tired of carrying it.

When he started to prefer the convertible. We had both, infant in my SO’s car and convertible in mine, and somewhere around 6 months when he could sit unassisted he would fuss with the infant seat but totally loved the convertible so we switched.

I started all babes with a transitional carseat. Infant seats cause too many unnecessary losses because parents think they're safe for baby to stay asleep in.

When they were able to be in the weight limit.  My daughter is 17 lbs (she has heart problems so she's small)
She will remain in a rear faced car seat until she reaches the weight limit of the convertible,  i can go ahead and buy it because shes old enough (almost 2) to not have me carry her in an infant seat she can walk so she doesn't need the infant seat. 
It really just depends on weight and if they are old enough to roam when you take them out.
