Puppy before newborn?

Question

So, I’ve had puppies before, and I know how much work they are. I am 32 weeks pregnant, and my hubby and I really want a golden retriever. They are super expensive ($700-$2,000), but he finally found one at a cheaper price ($400). We’re debating about getting it. I’ll add that I currently have a 17 month old that I’m fixing to try and start to potty train.
I’m just unsure of if I want to be potty training a dog and 17 month old together at 32 weeks pregnant. 🤣 I need other opinions.

I wouldn’t do it for a lot of reasons. First of all, your baby should come first and that alone is going to be exhausting and take a lot of time or energy that you will not be able to then take and focus on a puppy.
Secondly, why spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a puppy when there are innumerable dogs and puppies in shelters that you can get for less than $100-200? I never understood that... Adopt, don’t shop!!!
Thirdly, the time you’re going to have with your newborn is special and short-lived. It’s going to fly by SO quickly. Just take the time and focus it entirely on your brand new baby.

I had my puppy as soon as I found out I was pregnant as I've always wanted a dog. We've had basically 9 months to train him he's very good around children but I wouldn't advise it. It's very stressful they have so much energy! I love my dog I wouldn't change him for the world but I think it would have been  easier if I waited until I was settled with the baby.

I got my son his puppy when he was 3 months old. They bonded instantly, they were only born about a month apart. It was enough time to get past the newborn stage and be comfortable training a new family member.

Do not do it, have your baby first, find a new rhythm within your new family setting and then think about another dog.

Don’t. Do. It. I have a 2 1/2 year old son and we got him a puppy in November. I found out I’m pregnant (unplanned) in December and hello regret... 😭 He’s a super sweet puppy but I am SO tired and so nauseated and he shits and eats it. 🤢 Were working on potty training and he’s actually doing pretty well but if I had known I was going to have a new baby I would never have purchased a puppy.

I mean you already stated that you know it’s a lot of work. If you are willing to put in all that work and I mean really put in the work with a toddler, newborn and puppy then go for it but don’t just do it to do it then end up just getting rid of the puppy because you didn’t have time or attention for it when you knew it was hard work that it entailed. Don’t just do it for an on the whim decision!

My ex and I got a puppy when my daughter was just born and I had a 18 month old. I didn’t have a problem with it, but it was a lot of work! We got a husky! She’s such a smart dog, as are golden retrievers. But let me emphasize it was HARD and ALOT. I didn’t regret getting her once though.
