When to switch toddler to big bed?

Question

What were the signs that your toddler was ready for a big kid bed? Or, did you just decide one day to switch them (because of a new baby, or they could get out on their own). I’ve heard changing too soon can really disrupt their sleep.

My son’s 2 and his crib is still on the newborn setting. He doesn’t climb out of it. I won’t transition it until he’s either too big or he’s jumping out every night.

Both my girls were almost 3 years old. My first never climbed out because she was scared to, but wanted to get her settled into a big girl bed before her baby sister arrived. My second started climbing out of hers so that’s what made us transition. I wouldn’t transition too early and 2 is young in my opinion unless they are climbing out.

17 months only because she would just climb out of her crib and I didn’t want her hurting herself. I got that toddler bed that is a wooden house. To transition from a crib to a bed. Then I’ll get her a twin bed

My daughter started climbing out of her crib right after she turned 1. So we took the side off the crib. She’s 2.5 now and we switched she to a regular bed 3 months ago when we bought a new house.  Figured we would do all the changes at once. Plus we’re having a baby in March so we needed the crib anyway. Otherwise I prob would have continued using the crib as a day bed to avoid buying something else

She started climbing out of her crib and we're expecting our new baby and a couple weeks. So, we moved her crib to the new baby's room and got her a twin bed. She sleeps exactly the same, naps and bedtime.

We are going to switch our son over when we need the crib for our daughter. She’s due in March, but will stay in a bassinet for a while so he will have a couple months before it becomes an issue. He’s currently 20 months. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night screaming and actually does better just sleeping on his little couch in the living room, so I wonder if he may be ready soon.

I changed to a toddler bed as soon as my daughter climbed out if her crib.  She was 18 or 19 months and actually slept a lot better when we transitioned her.

15 months pediatrician recommended after seeing her climb over. It was a few week transition but we’re happy we did it early!
