Are you still painting your nails?

I heard that you shouldn’t in case they need to check oxygen levels. My nails are so stubby and cracked that I almost always have them painted. I tried for two weeks to grow them out naked and get stronger instead they just broke and look worse than before.

I plan to get a mani-pedi before I deliver. Not because I care about looking good in labor but because it’ll be harder to get away and do something nice for myself while we are getting adjusted to having a baby. Having my nails painted makes me feel like I’ve got a little bit of my crap together even if that’s not true some days. Lol. 
I was in the emergency room earlier on in this pregnancy for a possible PE and my nails were painted. They didn’t have any issue getting my oxygen levels. I don’t do acrylic nails or gel nails though. I just do standard polish so I don’t know if that makes a difference.

I knew a lady had to have her acrylics removed before surgery for the oxygen reader painted nails is fine

RN here. Paint your nails. 9/10 we can still get a reading and even with acrylics. I wouldn’t say go for acrylics bc they’re a pain in the butt for us at times. But even if they aren’t able to get a reading every floor has nail polish remover pads just in case of an emergency. I’m 34 weeks pregnant and still painting my nails. Sometimes you just need to pamper yourself and why not do it before the baby comes?

I had mine done at a salon almost two and a half years ago before my daughter's baby shower.... Haven't done anything but trim them since 🤷‍♀️

If you’re heading to a modern hospital, any pulse ox machine will pick up your levels. I use them daily. Heck, even the $20 ones from the drug store work fine.

Darker colors can be harder for oxygen levels but it’s usually not an issue!! If you need your nails painted you do it mama!!

It’s usually not a problem. Some older devices don’t read properly and if that’s the case they will remove the nail polish from one nail in the hospital.
