4 Hour Labor!

Randi

I figured labor this time around would be quicker than with my first because I was 3-4cm a week before my induction, but I didn't expect it to be that quick!

I went in for my induction at 38+3 at 7am. Had pitocin, iv antibiotics (gbs+), and water broke by 8am. Progressed to 5cm by 9 and stayed there for the next hour when I opted for an epidural because I was laboring front and back. Got my epidural around 1030 and had a few minutes of relief.

Progressed to 8cm. Pushed more meds in the epidural at 1050 because contractions were getting stronger again. They had me roll on my side and contractions quickened and doubled in intensity within seconds and I got nauseous. Rolled back to my back to relieve both and got checked again, 10cm.

Nurse called for the Dr and asked if I felt the urge to push. I honestly couldn't tell. I was numb from my bottom down. I could feel contractions in my belly and back, but nothing lower. I pushed anyway with contractions starting just after 11am. Baby boy was born at 1142am.

Recovery was so easy compared with my first except for the fact that I could not walk (or stand) for a few hours as I was still numb from the bottom down. Had a 48hour stay in the hospital because I didn't get enough antibiotics before delivering, so my son had to be monitored for fever/other symptoms. He is a happy, healthy 3 week old!
