Has anyone had a Hysterosalpingography?

I am due for a Hysterosalpingography (HSG) exam next week and I am really worried about it. How painful is it? My doctor has only prescribed an anti biotic to treat possible infection but she hasn't  advised me to take pain killer. I have heard it is very painful and uncomfortable.

It's more so uncomfortable than any thing.  ...you may have some pains here and there but it is very uncomfortable!

It takes few minutes.when they put the dye u will feel pressure n may be mild cramps.but it doesnt take much time.so quiet bearable.all d best.

I just had one done the other day and my doctor told me to take 1000 grams of tylenol or something like that.  I felt alot if pressure and cramping put only for a couple minutes and it was done. Hope this helps!

I had something very similar done (same test but they do an ultrasound instesd of an x-ray) and it wasn't bad, some cramping. They told me to take Advil an hour before. I built it up so much in my head but it wasn't anything like I imagined when I got there. You'll be okay :)

I was supposed to get this done in November but haven't had a period until last week and as this needs to be done a certain time after a period I am going to do it next week. They did give me a medication to make my period come but I have been a bit worried to take this as I don't want to add more chemicals to my body. We shall see how it goes then.

It’s uncomfortable but not really painful (unless you have blocked tubes, which the doctor told me is pretty uncommon). I would take something (painkillers) beforehand though just in case.

It just feel like pressure and period cramp once they insert the dye

I am curious about this also, my doctor gave me the orders for one back in September and I’ve been too scared to have it done for the same reason.
