Clomid question

Me and my husband have been trying for a year now, my dr suggested if I wasn’t pregnant by this month we would look into clomid. I have a few questions first for those who have done it before.

1. Did your dr have your SO do a sperm analysis first?

2. Would you recommend trying other things before going to clomid or just go for it?

I have not been using ovulation test and we thought about using those along with pre-seed?

EDIT:

I was put on thyroid medicine, my thyroid levels were high and was having irregular periods. November was the first month that they really actually regulated!
