Weird question..

Why would a male lie about being a virgin? For example, me and my current partner had sex for the first time and after he told me that I was his first. But his Facebook messages are saying different. (Apparently he had a girlfriend before me and messages to another girl saying they “done stuff”) So if he had sex before me, why tell me after that i was his first? I don’t understand it.
