Birth control

Morgan

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any advice?

17yo.. I’ve been with my boyfriend for almost a year and a half, and about a year ago I started taking birth control pills.

I got prescribed by my school nurse because my parents at the time weren’t very comfortable or willing to discuss the possibility of me getting birth control and I started to get nervous. I know condoms are extremely effective when they’re used right, but at the time I was extremely paranoid about the possibility of screwing up and wanted to make sure I had a backup contraceptive.

Recently I needed to get a refill of my prescription, and in order to do that I needed to call my pharmacist and have him fax my doctor.

As it turns out, I have frequent migraines and my doctor realized that this makes taking birth control pills risky for me, so I’m going to be switching to an IUD instead.

I’m glad I’ll finally have a form of birth control that isn’t a hassle (both to remember and to hide from my parents,) but I’m feeling a little bit in the dark about IUDs.

Can anyone share any red flags, advice, etc about IUDs? Or anyone who’s come off of the pill and dealt with the side effects?

Thanks!

(BTW, my mom knows about the IUD— after a year she’s much more comfortable with the idea of me acquiring contraceptives, lol.)
