How old should children be for sex education be taught to them?

I am worried about Sex Ed, I don’t believe they teach children basic knowledge nowadays including avoiding pregnancy,condoms,birth control and std/sti knowledge. I think they should teach sex Ed as young as the age 10. CHILDREN are having sex and getting pregnant!!! I am really thinking about changing my career into a Sexual Education teacher for young ones. What are your opinions? do you think they should be exposed as young as 10? or should they figure out the consequences on their own?

There have been 11-12 year old girls on here saying they are having sex.
Obviously they know what it is at 10, and should be taught as early as possible.

When I was in school it started in 1st grade. However I already knew about it because I could read at 3 and by age 5/6 my parents had given me books on sex and all the changes that goes on in the body. 
Where I live now, it’s taught in 1st grade. 
I started my period at age 7 in 2nd grade so I was prepared and not freaked out. 
Sex Ed needs to be started a lot earlier because kids are doing things a lot earlier and it’s better to have children knowing what is happening than to be ok with ignorance. 
My child will know before they are in 1st grade and I won’t shelter them from facts they want and need to know. I’m not ok with ignorance.

Yes it's pretty important for kids to learn it young, BEFORE they start going through puberty!! Not only because those changes should be expected, it's mean just not to tell them beforehand. 
And about sex too. 
Abstinence only stuff is also pretty useless, it's the reason more teens in the us get pregnant than in the UK, where there's less of this weird puritanical vibe.
STD shaming in schools also fucking disgusts me.
They use STDs to SCARE kids, NOT educate them.
Them ppl are so afraid of the shame they avoid getting tested & asking responsible questions. 
The STD shaming leads to the spread of STDs, first of all, and it's just thinly veiled sex shaming. 
Most STDs aren't even that bad, and caught early, they can be properly treated, cured or at least known about!
HIV is the most concerning one, so im glad free testing is available a lot of places.

I started sex ed when I was 9, just the basics, but I think it's important to start teaching children the basics when they're young, especially as it's still a taboo subject in a lot of households. 
I also think sex ed needs to be more detailed and include a much broader of subjects I.e. lgbt+ relationships, masturbation (as in its okay to do, regardless of gender), more about the female body (so many girls are uninformed and thok sex should be about male pleasure only)
Kids are having sex younger and younger, are exposed to porn at a ridiculously early age which is affecting how they view sex and as such relationships in the future. 
There are just so many areas in which sex education is significantly lacking. I genuinely worry about the lack of basic knowledge. 
My husband and I have already discussed how we'll approach this with our kids. Obviously information will be age appropriate (our daughter is 2, so won't be going into any detail any time soon) but we want it to be an open discussion and for nothing to be taboo.
