Do you recommend using baby detergent?

Question

I have been hearing conflicting responses to this question. Some family members and parenting books have said it is a waste of money and should only be used if the baby is sensitive to regular detergent and some women say you have to only use baby detergent. I am still unsure on what to do before I start prewashing some baby items so please tell me about your experiences. Thank you!

I know that my mom always just used 'ALL free and clear' so that is what I'm planning on using

I think it would be fine to use a free and clear detergent BUT dreft smells SOOOOOO good lol I’ll be getting one bottle of dreft just becuz it smells amazing then I’m switching

Honestly... I don't see the point. Unless you're going to wash the whole family's clothes and bedding in dreft, baby is going to come into contact with your clothes and bedding that aren't washed in dreft. We used free and clear for our first, then for our second just whatever we had.. still just whatever we have for our third and also for our fourth on the way. Unless baby had sensitivities, no sense in spending an atrocious amount of money on special detergent

I was very anti first mom, I didn't do or buy a lot of the things that people say you should have. Baby detergent was one of them, and my son is fine.
I used tide free and clear for everyone when he was smaller.

Personally...i am using dreft stage 1 and doing a hot wash for all new clothes and bedding...afterwards i plan to use any detergent left and then switch over to what i use normally..tide free and clear

I use a normal free and clear detergent. The baby detergents are highly scented and caused my baby to break out in a rash.

I wouldn’t buy it unless you notice your baby is sensitive to the detergent. I used tide(not the free and clear kind) the entire time for my 2 yr old with no issues.

I just bought tide free and gentle so that I don’t have to buy two separate detergents.

I use Seventh Generation, and when I cant get that I use All Free and Clear. 
I noticed my kids were having skin reactions and coughing (even the infants) with the regular detergents,  so I changed to the two above, and there skin would clear up and they'd breath easy until I laid them on my blanket or bedspread. Then I realized I was still washing those in regular soap. 
I completely changed over to 7th Gen and Free and Clear and they've been healthy and happy except for tge regular seasonal illnesses.

Do you recommend using baby detergent?
