Any tips for taking college classes while working?

I turn eighteen in a couple months and want to move out to escape my oppressive, verbally and mentally abusive stepmother and work towards a successful future. I've been offered a place to stay with my boyfriend and his friend's family who he's extremely close to, who are already very accepting of me, and I'm looking at my options to get a job to pay for food, medical insurance, etc. while still taking college classes. I'm considering online classes to make things easier, although I know it'll still be grueling. Any tips? They'd be greatly appreciated.
