“It’s the thought that counts”
My man of 3 years still gets me generic gifts. For my birthday he got me cake, when I have told him before I don’t like cake (and he also knows this from previous years when he got me cake and it just sat in the fridge) and a box of chocolates, when I have told him before I don’t like those boxed chocolates. And roses, when I have told him before I prefer other flowers.
My mom tells me it’s the thought that counts... but that’s the thing, he didn’t put thought into it. He grabbed the first things he saw in the store set up for Valentine’s Day without putting thought into what I actually like. He knows my favorite desert, he knows my favorite sweets, and he knows my favorite flowers, but didn’t get them and never has. Yesterday he even asked me if I wanted anything and I told him just McDonald’s breakfast, but he didn’t get me that lol.
No, I’m not going to make him feel bad. No, this isn’t ruining my birthday. And yes, I’m glad he got me something rather than nothing at all. I just don’t think I’m wrong or spoiled for having this opinion like my mom thinks I am.
