Who is right?

My friend says that it is proper edict for a host (a friend staying the weekend) to clean up after the guest. My friend stayed the weekend this weekend and refused to clean up after herself at all and said it was entirely up to me, the host. I told that was very rude to make mess after mess and expect me to clean up after her like she is my child. Who is right? Me or her?

There’s no reason a grown adult can’t clean up after themselves, guest or not. If someone is nice enough to let you stay at their house, it’s the polite thing to do

So technically I’d say, if I had a guest over for dinner or something, I’d absolutely clean their dishes.
But if I were a guest, I’d insist on cleaning though (so for me personally I’d go visa versa, I’d clean for a guest but if I were a guest, I’d clean for myself). But that’s just in the situation of a visit or dinner.
But if I were staying at someone’s house, I’d absolutely clean after myself. I’d go out of my way to make sure I don’t even make a mess. It’s common courtesy.

I think the word you mean is etiquette, but I was always raised to clean after myself guest or not. You should go to her house and make messes and see how she likes it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Most of the time if it’s a shared meal, the host is like “oh, don’t worry about doing dishes, you’re the guest!” 
But then the guest is supposed to help anyways because they’re being treated to the free (room, meal, whatever it is) and so the guests helps because that’s the right thing to do. 
And if a guest makes their own meal (maybe they got up early and had breakfast on their own or something ), then the guest cleans that up because again - that’s the right thing to do. 
You don’t leave a mess in someone else’s house.
