Does evening primrose oil work?

Question

I'm full term and front last week to this week I have only dilated from a 1 to a "stretchy 1" and still only 60% effaced. I've read that EPO can help the cervix. Did it work for you? I'm ready to get this girl out.

Answer

Dilation before active labor really doesn’t mean or indicate anything. Many providers don’t even check for dilation prior to labor anymore bc it can give you false hope or false disappointment. Don’t feel like you aren’t progressing just bc you aren’t dilating! Some women are dilated to a 2 or 3 for weeks before labor and some (myself!) are at a one for hours during labor! I understand wanting to get the baby out, but unfortunately you really do just have to wait til she decides to come. EPO can help your cervix to stretch better when it happens  but it won’t make it stretch sooner. Don’t lose heart, you could go into labor literally any time! Even being one cm!
