Empty sac/ no fetal pole 7 weeks and 4 days

Went for first ultra sound today. According to my last period I should be 7 weeks and 4 days. Only saw sac no fetal pole. Any chance of it just being too early? Periods are pretty irregular. Some cramps, but nothing bad and very very very light spotting according to doctor. Took a blood test and my hcg was 7,129. Going in on Thursday for another blood test.
