What do you consider to be “single”?

I just saw “Single’s Awareness Day” on my Facebook, and it made me wonder.  What do you consider to be “single”? 
A: you’re single if you are nothing more than friends or family with anyone in your life.
B: you’re single if you are either A or casually date multiple people
C: you’re single if you are either A or B or have a non-committed relationship (aka friend with benefits).
D: you’re single if you are A, B, C or in a committed relationship as long as you aren’t married.
E: I don’t know, your poll options are too confusing.

Option C. Unmarried people in a committed relationship are not single. I don’t know what kind of ignorance would see it that way. I mean I guess from a legal perspective as far as filing taxes and what not, but in a social setting people in relationships are not single.

You’re single unless you’re in a relationship. Back when my SO and I were friends, he had a FIB and his dumb ass hit her up on Valentine’s Day for an appointment, forgetting what day it was. She got him a Valentine’s Day gift and he was very uncomfortable. I think if you’re not committed to anyone then you’re single. If you’re seeing anyone just for sex, that’s not commitment.

I’ll go with C. Even if you aren’t officially in a relationship, of the two of you have decided to commit to something (dating, friends with benefits, whatever else there is) then you’re not single.
