Essential oils during labor?

I wasn't sure where to post this. I just had my OB apt and she was asking me what kind of things I had questions about during labor, and she told me shes been encouraging her patients to use essential oils. She said she rubbed essential oils on one womans perineum while she was pushing and she didn't tear at all. I'm just wondering if anyone else used essential oils and what your opinions were? Also what kinds did you use? Thank you!

My OB has her own little mixture she uses and I still tore but my baby smelled AMAZING! when they placed her on me. I’ll always remember that smell.

You must be careful. Don’t rub on your abdomen until your ready for contractions. Sage, specifically. Just do your research first.

The Essential Midwife is a great resource. We use doTERRA essential oils and love them. Just do your research beforehand and see which oils you react to the best (relaxing, comforting, energizing, etc.) and go from there.

I've heard great things about perenial massage and oil to prevent tearing. Personally, I'd stick to the aromatherapy with essential oils. I'd be nervous about them so close to a mucus membrane.
