How do you pick out the right foundation shade?

When I'm at the store, I loo at all the shades and try to compare it to my face or hand, but I can never tell which one is actually closest.

I should swatch it on your neck and jawline to see which matches closest. And let it dry for 30 seconds or so to make sure it doesn’t oxidize differently.

You need to match to the inside of your wrist. Some skin colors have either “warm” or “cool” undertones. I have very yellow and green undertones so if I dont have foundation on, I look sick even if I’m not. You can see that on my wrist. Tops of hands are not always good places to try to color match bc of how often they are in the sun. Inside of the wrist is very similar to the skin on your face! You can also go to a place like Ulta and Sephora where you can be color matched and they will show you how to do it in the future.

You could also always go into Sephora and have them do it for you too. They have a couple low budget companies (like Sephora brand itself) if you’re worried about cost.

Cool (pink, red or bluish undertones)
Warm (yellow, peachy, golden undertones)
Neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones)
Also, test the foundation along your jawline.
