How long does it take to buy a house if you’re getting a loan? Weeks, months, years?

So confused how long is the process of buying a house for the first time? Is it weeks, months, years.

I think it depends.  For my husband and I it was about 6 months. But we started looking before we got Preapproved. Because no one would. He was 19 and I was 18. We didn’t have a card or any bills in our name other than a phone bill at the time.  Get get approved in about a months after get a credit card and having it for 5 months. And paying it on time every month.  But this was about 16 years ago. Not sure what it like now.  But try to get preapproved before you look. Than when you find the house it will be easier because you already started.

It depends. Short sales can literally take over a year. Our home we started the process in March and we moved in June 1st.

For us, it was about 2 months from preapproval to closing. It can vary though. It rarely takes less than a month. Even 2 months was kinda fast

Once you are pre-approved and find the house you want to buy it typically takes about a month.  That is if your negotiations, inspection, and loan paperwork all go smoothly.  If there are delays in any of those things it slows down the closing process.

Typically it can take months. I think we managed to close in like 30 days but we knew the previous owners so that probably helped
