When should I stop taking Vitex?

Hi all! 
I have been taking Vitex for a little over a month and am now pregnant. I just found out a few days ago. Should I continue Vitex or stop? I was taking it to help aid in regulating my cycles since I stopped my birth control in December. To my knowledge, I never has progesterone issues. Has anyone else had this dilemma?

I’d recommend weaning yourself off over the next 6 weeks. Maybe start by taking half a pill for 2 weeks, then 1/4 for 2 weeks and then 1/4 every other day for 2 weeks.

Vitex is safe to take through the first trimester of pregnancy and even into the second, however, stopping vitex ‘cold turkey’ when pregnant may cause hormonal changes and is not advised. Often women are encouraged to wean off over time or 1 to 2 weeks. This is particular to each individual and you should always consult your OB or midwife for what is best for you. The general consensus of the literature is that taking vitex in the third trimester is thought to promote lactation too early.
