I'm so confused

I took 3 opks today, the first one I took when I woke was negative. I took the second a couple of hours later and got a smiley face yay positive! Then I just took one (about 6 hours after the positive) and it is negative... Was my surge really that short??? Has anyone else had something similar happen to them??
