Can anyone give me some advise?

Amber

Ok I’m due in April and have been going backwards and forwards with idea of breastfeed for most of my pregnancy. This will be my second child and probably my last. I never breastfed my first which another reason I feel I should give it ago at least.

The like idea of pumping as it means my husband can also feed our baby too.

How often should I expect to pump to start with and what times are best to build up a stash. I am completely new to this, and part me just thinks I should stick with formula as I know how to do that, but also agree with breastmilk is the best kind of milk for babies. I think getting the right information will help me feel better. Thanks in advance :)

I love that my husband can feed our daughter and I don't have to worry about her preference of nursing vs bottle or going back to work. One of my biggest fears about nursing was not knowing how much the babe is eating, that is completely a non issue. It is a challenge to get started, but it feels great to go from pumping "almost half an ml" in the hospital to be pouring full servings out of one collection bottle. I had to be very diligent about pumping to get here but Im making enough to keep 3 feedings in the fridge and I freeze an extra feeding when I can. I've had to use my stock when my supply dips but I stress less. Breastfeeding was so stressful for me, and time consuming. I had to give the babe time to feed, then I pumped, then bottle fed back bc I knew she didn't get enough. Then start it all over agian in the 30 min that is left between your 3 hr feedings... We used formula to supplement her while I established a supply we would use 2 bottles, 2 oz breastmilk and 1 oz of formula. She was exclusively on breastmilk at a month old.

Exactly how I am feeling! I am happy not being alone.

Why not try breastfeeding instead of exclusive pumping? Pumping is a lot harder and takes up way more time.

There are plenty of good nursing cover/top options. I use tops from Latched Mama and I don't even need to use a cover. As the other commenter said, pumping is much more disruptive to your life. That being said, it is possible, just not something i would do by choice. When i was working i pumped and mil fed bottles and i fed on demand whenever i was with baby. Now that I've quit, I love not being chained to the pump anymore!

It’s mainly due to the fact my husband also want to be able to feed her and also I’m not sure if I would feel 100% confident to do it in public too. Just wondering if there was a way to balance the the two breastfeeding and expressing and using a bottle?

I agree. If I had the choice to directly nursing vs exclusive pumping I would choose nursing. Pumping takes a lot more time and planning as well as strict scheduling. Your entire life is planned around your pumping. Whereas nursing you just go and feed when needed.
