Pack N Play Question

For those of you who use a pack n play in your room as your baby’s primary crib, did you buy a mattress for it, and if so, what kind? The thin little thing that came with it is so hard, I can’t imagine sleeping on it and I would feel bad making my baby sleep on it. 😕

No. Adding a mattress is not safe, there are clear warning labels all over the pack n play and owners manual.Unlike a the bars of a crib, the mesh sides of a pack n play are flexible so even if a mattress fits tight the mesh sides can stretch creating a gap where baby can get trapped and suffocate. Graco does sell fitted sheets for pack n plays that can help make it a little comfier for baby, but firm is good. Firm is safe.

No mattress. It's about the same hardness as a bassinet.

I put my first baby in a Pack N Play for 7 months and did not buy a mattress for it. Yes, it was a bit firm, but they’re supposed to be. She always slept fine and through the night starting at around 2 months old. Mattresses are generally unsafe for PNPs especially ones that are soft or made out of memory foam.

We did not. I know it's hard but I was scared to add anything other than the crib sheet

I bought what I thought was a mattress for the pack n play but here it was basically for a toddler bed. It actually fit was a little snug but fit I didn’t use it til we transitioned my son to the lower part the bassinet part of the pack and play I actually bought the foam you can use for your bed for padding just cut it to fit and put a sheet over it to keep him comfy.

It helped him sleep better as the previous comment said my son would be very restless then once I did it he slept great.

Same my son slept ten times better once I did this. And since it actually got a toddler bed he still has the same mattress in his big boy bed and he sleeps great.

I did this with my second and she started to sleep through the night almost instantly. Before hand she was so restless and waking up multiple times, she didn’t want to eat she just was uncomfortable.

A baby should sleep on a firm surface, even a mattress will be firm. It is unsafe for baby to sleep on a soft surface. Generally extra mattresses aren’t recommended for a pack n play. But if you do get one, make sure that it fits snugly with no gaps at the edges.

We bought a memory foam mattress from Amazon for our pack n play. It was about $40.
