What to expect in the aftermath...

Question

Hi ladies! I’m due in a week and I know that there is a lot of bleeding postpartum, but being a FTM I have no idea what to expect. I’m looking for advice. Like what postpartum pads worked best for you? When did your postpartum bleeding become more like a period and therefore more manageable? How many pads (and what absorbencies) did you stock up on at first? Stuff like that!

So everyone is different.
I actually didn't bleed to much after any of my kids. I wore the pads they give you in the hospital while I was there. I use always or  kotex.
When you are in the hospital they will constantly come in the push on your stomach and make sure your bleeding is okay. If you do it vaginal. Idk how it works with csection.
Some women will feel pain after bc your uterus starts to contract back down. You will always so have to measure your pee to make sure your peeing okay so drink lots of water after birth

For me personally I had a bit of a rough delievery I bled on and off for 6 weeks and had stitches. For me the underwear from the hospital was sooo comfy those first few days home with  the ice pack pads they give you i layered with two witch hazel pads then sprayed myself with dermoplast, after a week I switched to regular underwear a nighttime pad the witch hazel pad and the dermoplast. At this point I was still spraying myself clean with water not wiping! Lol again I had stitches. But no matter the birth I 100% think the thin nighttime pads, witch hazel pads, and dermoplast spray is a must! They honestly make you feel so fresh down there and helps with the healing process. My hospital sent me home with two bags of stuff so whatever yours offers take it!

For me it was just like a heavy period. My heaviest bleeding/clots were the first few days PP when I was still in the hospital. I used the thick pads from the hospital and heavy Poise pads for about a week and a half and then switched to lighter pads. By three-ish weeks I switched to just panty liners. I had so many people tell me to use Depends but I didn’t feel that was necessary. I changed my pad every time I used the bathroom and showered each day and it wasn’t a big deal. The spritz bottle the hospital sent me home with was great for rinsing off each time I used the bathroom which I felt helped.

I didn’t bleed a TON after birth. But I’m going to be honest... pads are ANNOYING. Seriously, buy the diapers. Lol Always makes discreet ones and you cannot tell at all under pants! You never have to worry about positioning them the right way or them getting bunched up. 😎

I’m 3 weeks pp and have been on and off bleeding. I had a c section, the first few days after we’re super heavy...they gave me very big pads and I changed every few hours. Once I came home, I just used regular maxi pads and it has lightened up to the point I can use thin pads. I’ve heard it can last around 6 weeks, but everyone is different, just seems like a very long period for me...no cramps or anything.

I made some ‘padsicles’ before birth and used them for the next few weeks. HIGHLY recommend them. I used aloe, witch hazel and lavender essential oil on mine. Super nice and cooling and calming in some very angry lady bits (vaginal birth with 2nd degree tear & stitches).  Good luck!

It wasnt that bad for me. Slight pain and lots of pads but it's probably not going to be as crazy as your imagining lol

Honestly mine was never very heavy once I got home from the hospital even though I had a third degree tear. It lasted almost the full six weeks but was very light for much of that time. I used the big pads they have at the hospital for a while and then some super size pads I had bought for making padcicles and had leftover, but I didn’t need them that big. I was still wearing the mesh panties as well for comfort (and a friend who’s a nurse had brought me extras) so I wore the big ones so that no matter how much they moved around (since mesh panties are kinda loose) they would still do their job.

The hospital will give you pads and witch hazel pads. They will also give you some mesh underwear that you can just toss when they get messy. Take advantage of the hospital items, after all, you're paying for it anyways
