HELP! How did you stop breastfeeding your toddler?

I would like to stop breastfeeding my 2 1/2 year old toddler. He currently breastfeeds every 30 mins and wakes up in the middle of the night and will stay sucking for an hour at least. He will try to take out my breast in public and when I say no he will throw a fit. He has speech delay and isn’t talking yet so I can’t explain to him that I’m tired or my boobs hurt. I need tips on how to stop

We incorporated weaning with a 36 hour period I was going away. I offered a variety of drink alternatives when she wanted to nurse. Not sitting and wearing clothes that covered my chest/cleavage was a big help. It was a rough week for the both of us. I wish you luck it's not easy on so many levels. I just completely stopped BF my 2.5 year old last month. It was very hard in the beginning bc she still nursed at night so I didn’t sleep for awhile. Once we stopped the night feedings, then I reduced it to three times a day for a week then two days a day for another down to once a day and then completely done. I offered a lot of snacks and distractions. I’m still not dried up!

When I stopped I had my daughter stay at my parents for a night. It was easy to distract her after she had gone over 24 hours without. We had already night weaned at that point. Night weaning is rough. It took a couple weeks to get through it. When she'd wake up my husband would go in and rub her back and get her back to sleep. If she saw or heard me we'd be in trouble.

I've recently stopped nursing my tot of the same age. Like only over the the last week lol.  The first 4 - 5 days were hard. She tried to feed more almost sensing that I wanted to stop. Every time she asked me for milk I'd say " you can have a cup of milk" and I'd give her a sippy cup instead. Day 7 roughly for me and she hasn't asked at all.
As for the nights...up until 7 or 8 months ago my daughter slept with me every night, suckling all night. It was ridiculous. Then I refused to feed her or put her in my bed, guess what? She started sleeping all night. It's amazing. Only took a few nights of discipline for me and she's a different Child.

Anything new to a toddler takes about a week.... During that week, it’s gonna be a struggle but know that there is light at the end... and when you might it, you’ll be surprised how easy it was!! Try to slim down the number of times Day by day.... start with day time... I’d limit him to evening feeds only. Hopefully that will be a good start!
