Hand washing

I never washed my hands before going to the bathroom, and only after a poo tbh, also never before I ate. Really I only washed my hands when they were visibly dirty. And I never bothered under my nails. I am now trying to change my habits because I'm expecting and I know handwashing is a good thing but I'm struggling after a lifetime of thinking it was a silly leftist affectation, raised with mantra like "I don't touch myself when I pee" "it's good to be dirty" "don't be a wimp" wondering if anyone else is/was a rare hand washer.
