So this is my first baby and I have been seeing a midwife at a birth center , I don’t have a obgyn and I have a fear of hospitals from some unresolved childhood trauma. Point is every time I get near a hospital I freak out can’t breathe and have a full blow panic attack and my anxiety spikes horrendously. Because of this my husband and I decided to go with a birth center for our baby and all has been well- unfortunately as we round 34 weeks I have high protein amounts In my urine and my midwife wants to test for preeclampsia. If I have it I will be high risk - too high risk for the birth center to clear me for out of hospital labor and I’ll have to be referred to a doctor I’ve never met to deliver my baby. I obviously hate this. Not only can we really not afford to change birth plans this late in the pregnancy (the center is all paid off and insurance handling that is taken care of and it would have to start over at a much higher price for hospital birth) BUT I will not have met this new doctor until 38 weeks of pregnancy or possibly until the labor which isn’t easing any of my nerves around hating hospitals. We won’t know for sure until the test results for a 24 hour urine sample are in and im freaking out because I cannot go to a hospital. What are the risks of Sever depression/ anxiety and panic attacks during labor ? Could that harm the baby? Me? Is that raising the risk of something going terribly wrong ? Our local hospital has a high c - section rate and that’s also the last thing I want. I wanted a natural water birth and its beginning to look like it’s less likely. There is nothing warm or inviting about the cold sterile hospital and that puts me on edge. The center is set up more like a bed room and they allow you to eat and hold your baby and don’t separate mom and baby to do Check ups. I want to cry and panic just thinking about possibly having to go to a hospital and I’m at a loss on what to do? Any advice ? Anyone have any information on preeclampsia- my blood pressure has been Normal just high amounts of protein in the urine. Is there anyway to fix that for the 24 urine test? Help?
