Maternity leave

When is everyone thinking of giving up work for maternity leave? This is my first baby and I hear lots of different ideas about leaving just before baby is due so that you have longer with them when they are here. Other times I hear that people take it from 36 weeks.

I have lots of annual leave to use before I go off so wondering whether to use a few weeks of that and then start mat leave.

Bearing in mind this is my first baby and August is going to be pretty hot here in the UK and we aren’t used to that here 😂😂
