P.S. you're gonna get more responses (and more productive responses) if you edit the post to add details about what it is
Do you support the Green Deal?

Tara
I apologize if this has already been asked, (I havent seen any) but I was curious as to how many people support the new green deal and what your reasons are as to why you do or why you dont. I personally do not.

Even reading about it on the news they're going to get a left or right wing spin, that's just the world we live in. The link I posted is a link to the actual proposal, it's quite a long read but at least it hasn't been spun to fit any agendas.

I didnt go into detail because I wanted responses from people who had heard about it. For those who havent I recommend researching it and looking into on their own so they can come to their own conclusion. Because any explanation someone gives is bound to be a bit biased whether it's a right winged person or left. So I like for people to read into on their own and decide.

I do. What were doing now is not sustainable, and if we can change things in a way that creates jobs and tackles economic inequality so much the better. As for actual policy, all we have so far is the 14 page resolution, which is basically a rough draft of committee ideals. Any actual legislation will have to be reviewed once it’s finished.

No, they don’t. It’s foolish to believe that. There’s also no plan to end all air travel. Just to eventually shift most domestic travel to a more efficient rail system.

I agree we should spend more time thinking about what things we can do to help the environment, but getting rid of air travel isn’t going to happen. Also economic inequality isn’t a thing. Everyone gets equal opportunity here in the U.S.

https://www.gp.org/gnd_full this is the actual link to the proposal. It's a bit long, but it's worth a read - no media spin when you're reading the original source

I recommend just googling it and researching different articles and videos. That way it's not seen as right winged biased or left wing biased.

As irritating as all of this misinformation is, look at how dramatic this senator is 🤦🏼♀️😂😂And all because AOC wants to encourage sustainable farming and healthy eating. And seriously everyone picking apart her words - have you not heard the shit our president says? A man who has been in the public's eye for literally decades? AOC is 29 years old and while she should definitely choose her words more carefully, she's young. The things she says aren't going to be as poised and perfectly worded as the things her Jurassic counterparts would say. She's still learning the ropes when it comes to public speaking and mass scrutiny.

She gets made fun of because she’s dumb, her ideas are idiotic. As a minority, she’s an embarrassment and makes us look dumb.

HELL NO.Anyone that thinks it could work doesn’t know the devastating fiscal impact it would take on the country. It’s the most absurd idea I’ve ever heard.

The entire burden *wont* be on taxpayers alone, I mean

Where are you getting the figures to do the math? You cant just throw out a random figure with no source and then tell me i'm not doing the math, what is your source? The green new deal isnt specific, its purposely vague because it is meant to lay a general framework. If it is passed, legislation will follow to hammer out the details, including cost and funding. But again, investment in infrastructure is..an investment. It yields a return. As far as China, they're investing 360 billion in green energy through 2020 but thats only the short term, they've also instituted an environmental tax to collect into the trillions to invest in green energy. But beyond that they're launching incentives to attract private investors. Which is exactly why I say you cant throw out random figures yet, a transition to green energy will ultimately be a partnership between the public and private sector, the entire burden be placed on tax payers alone

Looks like you haven’t done the math yet... Tell me more about China

Since it would cost the US over $90 trillion and help fund those that are “unwilling to work” I’m against it

This thread is old but I just want to clarify that in AOCs perfect world those unwilling to work would still receive income. On her website (she has since taken it down due to backlash) she stated that in a FAQ page. (Look it up, “AOC unwilling to work” from whatever source, It doesn’t matter)Let’s just say you’re right and the footage I saw was edited, that statement was still on her site. I doubt the final published green deal would include that (at least I hope) but what I am saying is that AOC is nuts to think that paying those unwilling to work is a good idea. Also something no one has seemed to address is how we would pay for this new deal? Even if the estimation is wrong and it won’t be 93 trillion, let’s half that. It would still be about 46 trillion! That’s more than the national debt, heck it’s double the national debt. How are we going to pay for that?

And your comment was “just because some people can’t afford it”, which was never the primary reason for eliminating the flights? My comment is still there, not sure what you’re in about exactly. At this point, we’re just mincing words. I stand by what I said.

I can read perfectly fine and I’m not stupid. It’s obvious that this thread is about pollution and how eliminating tri-state flights can can reduce pollution. But, you made a singular comment that I can no longer find, saying eliminating tri-state flights is good because some people can’t afford to purchase plane tickets. That was what I was replying to.

There's a lot of other things that are higher on my list of priorities to pay attention to because I doubt it'll go anywhere because we have too many crotchety, stuck in their ways people who undoubtedly will sabotage the bill. I've done minimal research on it, but from what I've found, yes I do support the bill. I love the idea of converting to 100% clean energy. From what I can gather, the deal would create jobs, lower pollution levels, and it would help remove a massive source of corruption from the political field.

You have higher things on your priority list than the survival of future humans on this planet?

Every $1 invested in infrastructure yields $2 into the economy. Investment in infrastructure is exactly that, it yields a return. America is going to have to spend the money and invest in order to keep up with the rest of the first world.
