Whiteface

Harper

Here's a twist on the usual blackface issue discussed here. On Instagram there's a video posted of a black woman applying white makeup to her face to appear white, and saying things that mock white people in a light-hearted tone. Several of the commenters found it funny, but there were a handful of comments pointing out the double standard: how when a white person does this it's considered racist but when a black person does it it's considered funny. One of the commenters said that black people have the right to make fun of whites because of past slavery and abuse and because some white people have been racist to her. I disagree with her. I don't believe white people as a whole should deal with racism due to what our ancestors and certain racist assholes nowadays did/do. I don't think it's justifiable for anyone of any race to be racist. I want to hear what you all think. Is what the woman in the video did alright? Do you think it's offensive, justified, or neither?
