Contractions?

What do contractions feel like? I’m 39 weeks tomorrow and I don’t think I’ve had any contractions or Braxton-Hicks that I know of. Everyone just says you’ll know what they feel like when you get them but that’s not very helpful for a FTM. Can someone explain what a contraction or Braxton-Hicks feel like??

I don’t even know what period cramps feels like. My period just flows, have never experienced any pain or something.

I never had Braxton Hicks with my first. But I did know when I was having real contractions. There was no doubt! Ha!

I never had them leading up to my first labor either. But yes, like a period cramp. Also it’s not always in the back as well. I have been having a lot so far, even pretty strong ones, but they have not affected my back as of yet

Braxton hicks feels painless, just like you are flexing your ab muscles and it just happens.  They are irregular and often come and go (for me more when active).  It is also common to get period like contractions that are not real labor.  They are a little more painful, low down and also come and go.  I have had these in the last few weeks.  Real contractions may start fairly dull but will progress in intensity (pain) and frequency and will not go away .  They also tend to involve the low back.  Hope that helps!
