Has your SO ever had success with a commission-only job?

My husband has been doing food delivery services the last few weeks, I've been helping him a lot. He was spotted by someone in a restaurant yesterday, and offered a food delivery job, just in seafood. Instead of using his personal car, he would get a company vehicle, but he wouldn't get an hourly wage, just commission. He has a wife and two kids to support, so I don't know about him taking this job, and quitting his other one.

My job is a mix of both commission and hourly. If you’re a hustler commission based jobs are amazing. What’s the breakdown of commission? Is it per delivery? Does he need to sell anything? How much time will he realistically need to commit to make a decent amount of money? What’s the traffic like where you are? Will that effect it? What about benefits? Sometimes those are worth the pay cut. There are a lot of factors.

Works well for us. My husband is commission only as a car salesman and I am full salary. Some months I make more and other months he makes 2 or 3 times more than me. 
We learned for commissioned base jobs, save for rainy days. He could have amazing months and then a bad one here and there. We make sure for the bad months we have enough saved for bills and the lifestyle we like but it works out great. 
All depends on how your SO is. Commissioned based jobs are sales oriented. If he is good with people and learns his product well, he can succeed. 
Before my husband goes to any dealership he talks to people in the dealership to find out what the lowest salesman makes vs the highest. Then we plan on the minimum pay and he works his butt off to be one of the highest. All depends on his motivation and work ethic.

I'd recommend having a good savings in place first. Just in case it takes a few months to get going.

My husband works in the service department at Toyota. He’s been there for almost 8 years or so and has built clientele. I’ve been able to be a SAHM for over 7 years now. He makes enough for us and it’s a commission paying job!

Tbh I wouldn’t do it if he has so many financial responsibilities such as a family. Yes people can make it work but those people are EXCELLENT sales people not just good or ok. I would not risk It
