Do you let smokers (vape, cigarettes, cigars, etc) hold your baby if they are not actively smoking at the time?

Nah. If I can smell smoke they dont get to hold baby. I have mild asthma. My current kid has really bad reactive airway thing.

Nope! Made the exception for my brother in law once, as long as he wore clean fresh clothes he didn't smoke in and didn't smoke before he saw the baby. He obviously couldn't follow that rule cus his hair smelled so had that you could literally smell smoke from another room. He won't be holding my son until he can follow my rule, I don't care how 'extra' he thinks it is. I had a friend do the same with weed he came over with his kids absolutely reeking and I said he couldn't hold the baby. Oh well! Smokers are probably my hugest pet peeve and I don't want that shit anywhere near my son. Luckily I don't know many smokers which saves me a lot of stress.

My sister and mom smoke but I make them cover their clothes with clean clothes and chew gum. Its smells so bad when they are close. I can't help but worry about when this baby is born...

My dad is a smoker. I never even thought to micromanage his relationship with his grandsons. It's not ideal, but it wasn't worth alienating my father. Next to my husband, he's the best man I know. My children are 5 and up and have no ill effects from being held by my dad.

My husband vapes outside so he never really has any smell or residue on him, he washes his hands and beard before interacting with our son. He used to smoke cigarettes and then vape when he switched, in our balcony at our old home... and it was VERY noticeable that he still had some 3rd degree smoke/vapor on him. When he would enter the room I would begin to sneeze within minutes (I’m just a very allergic person), so if it was still like that I would say he would need to do a full change of clothes and washing up. It really depends where they do their smoking. People who smoke in their home seem to carry it with them.

My in laws smoke and my husband and I both agreed that if they plan on visiting and holding our children, they will not smoke before coming, they will wash up and change clothes before hand, and if they don’t, then they won’t get to be near our kids. Some may say it’s overkill, but I don’t care. It’s been scientifically proven that second hand smoke is dangerous, and that the chemicals from smoking and vaping can seep into the skin and clothes and be transferred via touch. My baby will not be exposed to something like that when they don’t have to be. Period.
