Language Explosion?

Question

Anyone already experienced the language explosion? How many words do your tots have? Did it happen over night or was it a gradual increase in words? 
My son has 7-8 words. It feels like pulling teeth to get him to say the words he knows. He was born at the end of August so maybe he's just not there yet? 
He just had his 18 month checkup and the doctor wasn't worried, but I can't help but be a little anxious. When it comes to verbal communication, it seems like other kids his age are farther along. He does gesture and grunt/whine for things he wants. 
He's hit all of his other milestones on time or early so this is a bit tough.

We went from zero words to..Done, Eat, Bum, Ya. Then he finally makes some animal sounds he does a Cow, Owl, Pig, Horse, monkey, duck.
He didn't say anything prior to this month! 
He also started signing for "Help, please & more"
We have been In speech therapy since 15 months and our therapist said boys just talk later. 🤷‍♀️

In the same boat with my daughter but I’m not worried. She’ll get there in due time. The grunts do get annoying though😂

I think my daughter is going through it, it’s pretty gradual, but over the last couple weeks she’s picking up words left and right. For example, when we started potty training she had no words for the potty, but as we did it she learned “poopy” and “pee” within a couple days. She went from having about 10 words to having maybe 15-20 in about a month, which feels like a big advancement considering it’s basically doubling her vocabulary. we saw the doctor yesterday for her check up and he had zero concerns about her language development.

My son has the same amount of words. He’s getting evaluated for speech later this month. He had to get tubes for excessive ear infections, so I’m hoping he’s behind enough to need a speech therapist because I’m ready for the tantrums to stop.

I had mine evaluated and he was diagnosed with expressive speech delay. The last 2 weeks, we have noticed an explosion in the amount and frequency of babbling and singing, but he still only uses 2 words, uh oh and wow. I'm hoping he's finally coming around, but yeah, he is certainly behind his peers. He has met and exceeded all other milestones, so I'm not too worried yet. I'm hoping he's just one of those who wakes up one day and has a bunch of words, lol.

My daughter (born 8/3) really just started spitting out a ton of new words daily about two months ago. It was within a couple weeks of her getting ear tubes, so we kinda think the fluid issues in her ears were interfering with her hearing things clearly and holding her back. Literally all of a sudden she started repeating everything. It’s nuts and it can come out of nowhere - I wouldn’t be too worried yet.

I feel like our first ‘language explosion’ was around 15 months... and then he just started talking a lot more on his own and also copying everything we say (gotta be more careful now around him! 😬). Now he’s 19 months (born 8/10) and has 100+ words and is now stringing multiple words together and everything is possessive. 
Try not to stress too much about... kids develop at such different rates this early on!! When they’re a bit older it seems to level out a bit.

Seems like a lot of our kiddos are in the same boat :) typically girls do talk earlier than boys. My son has been communicating a lot more and talks, but honestly I dont know what hes saying! Lol he also does sign language and talks like hes asking a question. All in due time :)

She has well over 40 words and speaks in 3-4 word sentences frequently. She has a 3 year old older sister so I think hearing sister talk constantly has helped a lot.

After seeing this post I sat down and made a quick list of words she says because I was thinking 15-20 at the most. But turns out she knows 45+ 😳 She has learned at least 10 of those in the last month though so I wouldn't be worried. My cousin that just turned two just started saying about 7-8 words and doctors weren't worried and now she's catching on. Kids learn in the way and order they want ❤️
