Do you think we should get rid of political parties?

I'm just curious what people think of this idea. Instead of having the Republican or Democratic parties, what if we got rid of parties all together and just elected an individual based off their policies instead? This would get rid of the back and forth argument and we could think of each other as individuals coming together as one.

Parties themselves are fine. It’s the system that corrupts them. 
The US needs to move away from the “winner take all” model that most states follow for awarding electoral college votes and assigning house and senate seats. Electoral votes and seats should be awarded proportionally. A proportional system would also make other parties more viable. 
Electoral boundaries need to be drawn in fair and nonpartisan ways. GIS software and population data can be used to do this work fairly instead so many states rely on humans to draw these maps which result in incredibly messed up maps in some places.  Pretty sure Ohio’s map is in court right now. 
Citizens United needs to be overturned.

I say yes because the label isn’t important and sadly there’s a lot of stupid people voting. They only vote for a party and don’t look into the policies the politician wants. It would lead to more educated votes hopefully. Better to try that than keep it the way it is with all the political tension.

I see a lot of people who seem biased based on which political party a proposal is coming from. I believe it’d be better but I don’t think it’d ever happen

Yes or allow other parties to participate in all the debates. I personally think the 2 party system is broken.

People like labels and being able to identify with others. Labelling yourself as "Democrat" gives you an idea of how others also labelling themselves as "Democrat" feel on certain issues. However, the two party system is gross. We need to allow more candidates from other parties to actually be voted in, and people need to vote on their opinions on ISSUES not party lines. There was a Senator from my state who is Republican, but is supposedly very vocal about women's rights and women's issues. They dodged questions and gave vague answers all throughout the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, and ultimately voted on party lines instead of what MANY of their constitutes (and their personal morals) were advocating for. They've been representing my state for like 20 years, and we'll see how things go in 2020 when their seat is up.

I don’t really see the point. They give
people a starting point for focusing their ideologies, and make for less chaotic elections. It’s not like people are forced to only vote for a single party.

That would be chaotic... that is what primary elections are for. Imagine if everyone who ran in the primary elections proceeded to the general election and then there was a popular vote.. you would end up with even more unhappy people then the party system allows for. There is always the option for people to run as independent.. and some candidates who should be running as independent still align with a party because the likelihood of winning an election when there is a republican or democrat also on the ballot is highly unlikely

It would be really nice, but it'll indirectly end majority vote. So it's a trade off I guess.

Yes get rid of them. I’m tired of seeing people vote for candidates just because they are republican or just because they are democrat.
