Homeschooling??

Jaime • 💍 Married ♥️ Two wonderful step kids 🌈 Cora Eliana born 11/22/19 ♥️

We are considering homeschooling our kids and I’m wondering what issues, if any did you encounter? What steps can I take to better prepare myself? I know every state is different, but any feedback is appreciated.

Btw we are in N.C., so if there is a N.C. homeschool mom out there I have many questions!

Don't do itUnless you make them go out and be social. Or else they'll be super introverted and awkward

This is not accurate. 😂 homeschooled children get just as much socialization as long as the parents don’t keep them in the home 24/7, which is bad parenting imo. My kids go to the library, go to church, go to the gym, go to the park, etc. they are social butterflies and exceed at everything they do!

I'm in CA and I homeschool my 12 and 9 year old and plan to homeschool our new one when she gets here. We have homeschooled since my daughter was in second grade. We use a charter school that comes to our house once a month and collects work samples and tracks attendance. We are given funds to buy the curriculum of our choice as well as funds for extra curricular activities. My children have taken a variety of sports, music and elective classes. My daughter also sees a tutor once a week for help in math. My suggestion would be to see what different options your state and or county offer. Also we joined a few local homeschool groups so we can take educational field trips as a group and make friends for the kids as well as myself. We've also done a lot with our church and do a once a week homeschooling co-op.

As a person who was homeschooled until she could move out, I would just say that whatever methods you use, please make sure you are checking to see that your kids are on track with their appropriate age group. I was lucky and was able to get education from people willing to help me, got a GED and moved out. My siblings aren't so resourceful or motivated and the lack of education they have in every area is so scary. My mother basically calls it homeschooling but nature documentaries and "educational" early math and writing games do not an education make. Also, make sure they have some kind of extracurricular activity where they can get some social activity. It really does matter.

I dont have any personal insight, but i have worked in colleges for years. Make sure everything is updated and reported to the state so after k-12 is covered. Good luck!!
