He doesn't want children

I am almost 26 have been in a solid relationship for 2 years with my partner who is also my age. Recently, in a conversation, he slipped saying he didn't want to be a father. The problem is I do, not now but within 5 to 8 years. I am willing to wait but I am not sure if he will change his mind. If you have had this issue before, what did you do? How did you cope with it? How did you overcome the hard conversion. We love each other dearly but I am not sure what the next step is.
