Family car... which one and Why?

We are looking at purchasing a new Odyssey or a Pilot for our family of 6. We have 3 boys ages 12, 11, and 6 and a 2mo girl. We love the cargo space of the van but really love the compact vibe of the Pilot where we aren’t fully “mini van” cliche if that makes sense. Any input is appreciated!

I was resistant to the van, but honestly I'm glad we did it. I actually don't know anyone who regretted getting a van with a large family. Extra room, extra trunk, a/c on the roof, sliding doors that the kids can't fling open into the car next to them. It's all good. Get the SUV for your next car down the road when your kids are bigger.

This is going to come down to preference. We have the mdx which is the pilots cousin. We loveeee our truck. It drives like a car, it is super quiet and has a super smooth ride. The only thing I will say is the third row is tighttttt. Your twelve year old would want to sit in the 2nd row. With the third row seats up you are left with around 2 feet of space and that’s it.

Odyssey is nice. My in laws had it for awhile and adults can be seated comfortably.  A van is just going to have more room. A pilot will not. Itll be more cramped. So for comfort I would go bigger with the van.

I’d go for the mini van. My plan is to stick with my small suv for two kids but then upgrade to a mini van if we have a third. My reasons are this: I love the idea of sliding doors so that older kids who are able to get in and out of the car independently can’t hit the cars beside us in the parking lot. I also want to have cargo space. In your case even if you have three kids sitting in one row you still would have to utilize that extra third row which usually drastically cuts into cargo space if it’s a fold down “optional” row, which I’m assuming is the case for the pilot, but I could be wrong on that.

I've never regretted using/driving a vehicle with lots of space for everyone! I'm also biased towards larger cars like Van's, suvs, and trucks 😁

When I found out I was pregnant with our third, we got a 2019 4Runner limited edition. We absolutely love it and space wise, it works great for us.
