Sperm count??

Question

Doctor called to tell us his sperm count was low, 14.2 but he didn’t say how low that is or what that means or what comes next. He said he wants to test one more time then take it from there. What do they do for a low sperm count? Thanks!

That’s just below normal, so not too bad. It will be good to see the other numbers too, if they are normal it could help make up for a low count. There are things that can be done for a low count. But often a couple SA show a clearer picture of what’s going on.

I would ask him to send you a copy of the results. Next step will probably be for him to see a urologist to see if there’s a correctable cause of his low sperm count— maybe he has a varicocele or low testosterone. They might even start him on clomid. Depending upon whether or not they find a correctable cause, you might then see an RE if you haven’t already done so. We went through this just a couple of months ago... about to start IUI. My husband had two sperm analysis and the second one was a lot worse than the first. We did what we were suppose to too, no sex for 4 days before.
He went to a urologist and is now taking clomid. But we were told to go right to ivf and we are talking to the fertility specialist this week for scheduling  next steps

That’s around what my husband’s was. More bloodwork revealed that his testosterone was low so he was prescribed Clomid to increase the testosterone which would hopefully increase his sperm count. On follow up analysis 3 months later his count is 3x better then it was before Clomid.
