Birth plan?!?

I heard nurses usually laugh at birth plans because anything can happen. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wrote one and used it for all three. 
I put things like: No students (the hospital my son was born in was a teaching hospital). No IV (saline lock if absolutely necessary). No medical intervention or pain meds offered unless me or baby were in danger. Limited monitoring. To be left alone as much as possible. No cervical checks. Not telling me when to push. Laboring and delivering in any position. Delayed cord clamping. Letting hubby cut the cord. No vaccines. Vitamin k drops over shot. All new born procedures done in our room and keeping baby in with me at all times. If for some reason they had to take baby out my husband would go with it.

It’s good to have one but also be aware that birth is not a predictable or planned event. 😊 But it’s good to know what your wishes are and to have your HCP be aware of your wishes too!

I wrote two. But you have to understand that its more of if it's possible and less of this is exactly how it will go. I'm planning a home birth in water. So I have stuff id like to have for relaxation purposes, a few post partum wants like hubby getting to dress the baby because some midwives will just do it for you....but i didnt have to include delayed cord clamping and skin to skin because thats already the norm for home births.....but i also made a hospital plan that one has way more because you really have to spell it out for the hospital but in the hospital i also have a section for an emergency c section and my allergies. Its good to have even if your wants dont end up happening at least your doctor knows what you want....they say you should show the list to your doctor beforehand but in my experience with hospitals you dont always get your doctor so youll want to have it with you.

I only have a few things that I really would prefer, I didnt write one for my last baby, but I'll probably write a little que card to hubby so he can remeber what I'd like too. 
At my hospital they usually ask if you have any preferences as soon as you get admitted.
- dim lights
- no fentynol ( hated the way it made me feel last time ) 
- no visitors 
- bathtub

I'm going to write down my birth preferences, but not a plan. I'm not going to be set in stone about what I want, because I feel like that just leads to stress when it doesn't go that way. I think it's okay to communicate what you want though because you won't feel like it when you're in heavy labor!!
Things like delayed cord clamping, an interruption- and intervention-free first hour if at all possible, and not asking me about pain meds/an epidural unless I ask for one. :) I think it's helpful for you to even have the chance to think through your preferences so you know what you want!! And then hold it loosely and don't stress if the baby resists your plan.
