Has anyone ever had a planned induction for non medical purposes?

My OB said that if I’m still having a lot of pain, he’ll break my water in the office at my 38 week checkup. I’m thinking about letting him because my one year old has been having to stay with her grandma because I can barely walk without experiencing pain. The baby’s head is lodged in my hips which is why it hurts so bad.. nothing I can do about it. So what would you do if you were me? Allow him to break my water or wait?

I would definitely talk to him about other ways first. If your body isn’t ready and he breaks your water it won’t make labor happen just increases the need for a c-section and risk for infection.

So I was induced because of intense hip and back pain at 39 weeks and I regret it with every ounce of me. I wish I had just waited and pushed through the pain. I was 2 cm dilated but I had an awful birth experience! It was 17 hours long my water had been broken so long I ended up with a fever my baby was sunny side up causing crazy back labor that made my epdidural not work and basically I felt drunk because all the medication was going to my head. He was stuck for 4 hours I was bleeding so bad they almost took me back for a c section because at that point the head of anesthesiology called and cut me off on my epidural which still wasn’t work where it should have been. Eventually they had to use forceps to help him out, he came out fine and healthy and is a very smart happy boy but omg never again! And not even joking my contractions at one point were lasting 5 plus minutes with a 30 second break they stopped the pitocin which caused him getting stuck but my contractions were literally out of control and I could hardly breathe. Now I know this is more on the crazy side of induction and not everyone has this experience but if you can wait you should! Next time I will be waiting and going without the epidural lol

I've been induced 4x. If you're not dilated or effaced, they can't break it and it you're at higher risk of c section. My dr won't do it before 39 weeks and won't break your waters outside the hospital. Mine would try cervidil first and then break the waters after you've had some progress. I personally wouldn't do it. I wish I could have gone into labor naturally. Once they break your waters you have to deliver next day, pitocin is awful, and 2 of my 4 inductions failed and I ended up in a c section.

my step mom did. my sister is autistic and she needed a set time and place to be away from my step mom and dad. inconsistency is really hard for to handle, so they scheduled an induction to relieve stress. honestly you gotta do what’s best for you! and i would consider severe pain a legitimate medical reason. good luck mama!

Pain is definitely a medical reason!!! Do what’s best for you and if your doctor recommended it then it’s definitely okay

i had 2 elective inductions. one at 38 weeks & one at 39 weeks, my kids came out fine.
