Baby shower... was I wrong?

Question

I just made the FB invite for my baby shower and on it, I mentioned to please leave small children at home so that everyone can enjoy the party. I have been to my fair share of baby showers and every time, theres always at least 1 kids that ruins the whole experience. I'm not saying I dont like your kid. I'm just saying that I would prefer a more adult shower than a child friendly one. Hell, I'm not even bringing my OWN kid to my shower. My best friend and sister (who are essentially hosting) aren't bringing their kids and liked the idea of no small children. 
Well, I have had some backlash about that stipulation on the invite. I have 2 cousins who have 7 kids between them (6 being under the age of 10!) The children aren't well behaved and always cause such a ruckus anywhere they go. I just really dont want them there. Am I in the wrong for asking guests not to bring their kids? I have a feeling they're going to ignore my request and bring the kids anyway. How would you deal with this situation?

You are absolutely not wrong. It’s your shower and they should respect your wishes. If they can’t abide by it then they can stay home. And just for the record I love kids but sometimes it’s best to have an adult event.

It’s not a black and white awnser.
I get why you don’t want kids there, they’re annoying.
But on the other hand, 1. It’s probably not your first shower because you mention having kids
2. They already have to fork money to buy you a gift, now they have to pay for a babysitter.
3. Showers are to « celebrate » babies, therefore kids also. Soo...
Just don’t expect people to come, get they’re children babysat plus brig you a gift. Tell them you understand if they can’t make

I wouldn’t mind if the children were well behaved. However, if the kids can’t behave, and their parents don’t know how to parent, then I would definitely request a child free shower. The kids on my side of the family are well behaved and listen. My husband has some kids on his side that are absolute brats that scream and cry when they don’t get their way (and they’re 8-10 yrs old!). I would not have a party where they are involved 🤷‍♀️

There is nothing wrong with wanting no kids invited to any event that you have, especially when you aren't discriminating by saying "oh, well my sisters kid is different." No kids means no kids. They can either suck it up or not come, its your party.

I think it’s your shower and you should do what you want 💜 I also know that I wouldn’t make a big deal about it if someone said my kids couldn’t come, but I just wouldn’t go because I don’t have many people to watch my babies. But there’s no reason to be hateful or get upset at you because of it!💜

Your party, your choice. If people are mad they can't bring their kids, tough cookies for them. They can find a sitter or not attend.
