What does a newborn need to wear in summer?

Dumb question but my last kid was born mid-December when it was -30 (live in Minnesota) and my new kid will be born mid July so I’m curious... what would a newborn wear middle of summer? Just onsies for a while? Or should I just plan to layer a lot? My first just wore thick pajamas for a couple months until it got warmer and she started at daycare.

They say to put baby in one layer more than what you wear since their temps arent regulated like ours in the beginning.

I'm from Minnesota too! :-) My daughter was born in July.  Don't forget, if you'll be in AC it can get pretty cold got them.  I usually had her in a onesie and light pants.  Depending on the day I'd do shorts or have long sleeves on her.  I did a lot of rompers.  Also, when we were out and about I would dress her in layers our at least bring layers.  So, a onesie, pants, and bring a little sweater or long sleeve shirt in case we were going to be in the ac.  Otherwise I just has a swaddle blanket it put on her while she was on her car seat.  For in the car and I stores/restaurants.  At night bc we had ac I put her in cotton footie jammies.  We didn't crank or acor keep it really more like some ppl do, but like the other person posted.  A layer more than you have is a good guideline.  My daughter was kind of a hot kid so...She didn't need as much.   Hope that helps! Congrats! I LOVED having a July baby!! I had my first son in July while inside it’s colder due to air conditioning so he wore pants long sleeves or short sleeves and pants since he was swaddled didn’t want to over beat him. If we were outside it was rather hot s he’d wear T-shirt and shorts.. this new baby is due in June so I’ll do the same thing for him as well.

I did a mix of onesies with shorts/skirts and sleepers.  It was cool inside because of the air conditioning so she needed to be kept warm then.  We also still had cool days/nights so she needed to be kept warm.

Our July baby was in short sleeve onesies during the day. We keep the house warm (74ish). We had her in zippy pjs at first and realized she got way to hot while holding her. If she was in a swing (or otherwise not being held) then we’d put a blanket over her. For bed it was zippy pjs and a swaddle. We used cotton halo ones.

Depends how warm your climate is but they usually just need lighter versions of what a winter baby would wear. They will still get quite cold a lot of the time so you’ll still need a couple of lighter jackets and a pram suit or something if it gets colder or for evenings. Otherwise, mostly just onesies with light cardigans or jumpers that you can remind if they get hot :) x

I’m having an August baby in Boston... only buying long and short sleeve onsies until she’s 2 months... she’ll be swaddled or blanketed if it’s cooler.

I would buy both long sleeves for night and short for morning . Don’t forget we swaddle them or put blankets on them sometimes :)
