Has anyone eloped?

My fiancé and I plan on eloping and not telling anyone, we don't want anyone's input on what we've decided nor the expenses of a wedding.(At least right now) So my question is if you eloped, without telling anyone, how did your family/ friends react? Were they mad for a while? I'm not trying to hurt feelings but I'm also not trying to live my life for others.

Well ladies...WE DID IT! I'm officially married and only my cousin (who is like my sister) knows. I'm happy we went with what we felt was right and not what others thought. Thank you so much for your advice and your stories. It really calmed my nerves. I would share pics but I only have one silly one of my HUSBAND (🙈) on my phone lol This is what I get to spend my life with 😂😍

Getting married is about you and your husband and how ever you want to do it. No matter if that’s a simple court house wedding, a huge extravagant wedding, secretly eloping, or ANYWAY you guys decide. If anyone gets mad at how you wanted to get married that is their issue not yours.

My husband and I eloped and it was sooo relieving. My family is a little overbearing and doesn’t offer input as much as they kind of indirectly tell you what to do. I couldn’t plan a whole wedding with it. My parents made a couple smart remarks but after 10 minutes, no exaggeration, they stopped and I didn’t hear about it again. They were sad for the first few minutes but then they were very happy for us.

We eloped. We were engaged for maybe 6 months the one day said let’s go to the court house. I called my sister he called his friend and we got married. Our family wasn’t thrilled because they wanted a wedding but at the same time we have always been the low key kind so we did a big dinner and it worked out fine.

I did, and honestly am soooo happy I did, both my husband and I are not center of attention people and it ended up being so romantic and special, there isn’t one part of that day that o would change, that being said his family was and still is super hurt about it ( mine didn’t care 😂 and even gave me money to replace the money I spent on it) but his family was hurt and it’s been three months and we still get little sad comments here and there about how they missed their only sons wedding ( his sister is having a big 200+ppl wedding this summer)

We didn’t elope but had a super small wedding (10 guests who were all immediate family and 1 mutual friend of ours). Did it in my parents yard gazebo with an officiant we found online. We asked zero help or advice from our family (not because our families aren’t wonderful but just because we wanted to do things the way we wanted to) and the only thing we asked for help on was asking our parents if we could use their gazebo. We went out to dinner with our guests at a nice restaurant after the ceremony as our “reception” and then went back to my parents house and drank and listened to playlists I made on my iPod. We had no groomsmen or maids of honor etc. No favors. Nothing that we didn’t want. Just the two of us getting married in front of our closest family. For us it was perfect. I can’t imagine having our wedding any other way. But if inviting family is going to cause more drama and stress then don’t. Get married the way you want to.

We did my family was fine with it, my mom was a little upset for a few minutes but got over it. His mom went ape shit cuz she hated(hates me still). But everybody else on his side was fine. We ended up having a wedding ceremony a year later.

Just eloped and I would do it all over again! It’s soooo romantic and special with just the two of you! Our families were really convincing us to throw a huge party but we didn’t care. We really wanted to make it about us and not other people. Having to entertain others on OUR day....sounds harsh but think about it! Our elopement ending up being only about love and nothing else.

We decided on a random weekday to just get it over with 😂  
I called my parents when we were already on the way to the courthouse, they live in another state so there was no chance for them to come. They were pissed because I'm the only daughter and they always dreamed of my "big wedding" - which is so not like me cuz I hate being the center of attention. 
My mom and my brother get me, they know a big wedding is not something I would have done anyway, so they got over it pretty quickly. but my dad is a control freak and he didn't like that I made my own decisions. 17yrs later, he still hates my husband and resents me for not including them in my wedding. (The secret wedding was just a drop in a bucket, my dad doesn't like my husband no matter what he does, and he's an amazing guy)
Anyway, the people who truly get you will respect your decision, because at then end of the day it's not about them.
And after a few years, no one should care how you got married, only that you are happy.

I eloped and didnt tell my family. A couple of months later my parents found out and they were pissed. They were mad because I was 20 at the time and still in college. Everytime I would go home or call my parents they continued to tell me how disappointed they were in me. It was awful! For a period of time I stopped talking to them because it was just annoying. When we did talk or see each other it was awkward. They treated me like I was a stranger to them rather than their daughter. That was hard. After two years we are back on speaking terms and they are now treating me like their daughter again. Like they said time will only heal a broken heart. In all honesty, sometimes I wish I had just told them. Its all up to you. I love my husband to death and I dont regret marrying him.
