Outside food for infants?
A restaurant that I "like" on Facebook that I frequent often put up a post today that generated a lot of feedback both positive and negative. Unfortunately when I went to click on it to take screenshots the post had been removed. Of course 🙄 but I still want to know how you all feel about it and since the story is pretty straight forward I feel I can relay it and get the point across just fine.
So I would describe this place as sort of a family eatery/diner type of restaurant. Maybe something like a Denny's or Bob Evans but more local (they have a few places throughout the state but that's it). Apparently a group of 5 or 6 women in their mid- 20's or so showed up to grab something to eat.
One of the women had her 10-12 month old (not sure of the exact age because the post said 10 months one point and 1 year at another) with her who just sat on her lap while she visited with her friends. They all ordered food and the mom also ordered some yogurt for the child. When all the food arrived, the woman also took out a small child sized bowl with a lid from her bag that had some food in it for the child. (Not sure if it makes a difference to anyone but just in case, the bowl had some kind of oatmeal in it and I guess she also had a few "Cheerios" type snacks for her child to nibble on while they ate. This is according to both the restaurant manager and a couple of the woman's friends who had commented on the post). The said somewhere that the child is fairly picky and she wasn't sure what the restaurant would have that her child would eat (she had never been), but also knew that her child would be hungry and get fussy if left without anything to eat while everyone else ate which is why she brought some from home. So she had her plate of food that she ordered but was feeding her child the oatmeal from home since the child ended up not liking the yogurt.
The manager on duty saw this and told the mother that outside food was not allowed and she would have to pack it up or leave. The mother had only taken a couple of bites of her food, still paid for it, and left without causing a scene and that was pretty much that.
Today, the restaurant manager posted a low quality picture on the Facebook page of the mom feeding her child the food from home but did have the faces blurred. He said, " I can't believe I have to even say this but *restaurant* does not allow outside food to be brought in. That's right people, as a restaurant we require you to order the food we serve." The post was sort of long but those were the first few lines.
So I'm curious what you all think? How do you all feel about outside food being brought in for really young children like this (not older toddlers or school aged children, but right around a year or younger)? Also, do you think the manager was right posting what he did?
edit: I just want to add my opinion- I think because they paid for food and the child was so young it's totally fine. Some people we're commenting that it was gross or unsanitary but I really don't understand how. The mom handled it WAY better than I would have thought 😂
