When do kids start Preschool and/or kindergarten?
Do kids have to attend preschool? Is it encouraged?
Do you pay and find a place or is it considered public schooling?

Preschool is typically ages 3-5 and kindergarten starts at 5 (although your child's birthday will play a role in when they're able to start). Kids don't HAVE to attend preschool but it's really helpful to make sure they know what they need to know for kindergarten. Not to mention, it helps get them used to being away from you during the day and helps them to make friends and build social skills.

Look into pre k. It’s not mandatory. But gives kids a huge leap above those that don’t. Kindergarten has changed so much. When we were kids it was more about play and social skills. But today. Kindergarten has curriculum and what used to be 1st grade curriculum is now kindergarten curriculum.

My sister in law teaches kinder and can tell a big difference between those that went to preschool and those that did not; they are far more prepared and overall they do better, so if you can do preschool, I highly suggest it, but I’m not talking about a daycare that calls itself a preschool; you want something with a real curriculum.

Yes i agree w/ pp it all depends on the location, Indiana it is age 5 before September 1 with a waiver, If birthday is later than September 1 then have to wait until next year.

Depends on where you are. Age differs state to state, some school districts offer preschool and others you need to find it yourself. Growing up my district didn’t have preschool, my mom paid for me to go to one. The district my mom works in now does offer preschool to certain families. My own son does preschool at his daycare.

I’m the places I’ve lived, you don’t have to go to preschool before kindergarten, but there are many benefits. As far as the age for kindergarten, there are different cut off limits everywhere you go so you should google or call around to find out the age for your area. They have free pre k in many/most places, but I’m sure you could find a private place and pay for it too.
